JC Autobody is a project formed in 2009 drawing influence from noise rock, punk rock and proto-metal. The lyrics are typically lo-brow and describe characters and scenes from a fantasy Rust Belt mythos heavily influenced by Newby's own experiences in Central Indiana.
The first EP, TRASH, was released in 2009 and featured a cover of a rare 1958 blues song called "7-Up and Whiskey" by Jonathon's grandfather. The Lifetaker EP was released in 2010 and established JC Autobody's standing in the synch world by earning a number of placements that would fund a number of subsequent releases.
2014 and 2015 saw a series of new releases including Indiana, which evolved the style and sound further into noise, and the fourth installment and first official full-length, Young Tobacco, which took the project in a more polished proto-metal direction. Witches was released on Halloween in 2015 and thematically centered around the defunct Central Indiana Hospital for the Insane.
Autobody's sixth release, the 2018 full-length Turbo, was released on Halloween in partnership with Seeing Red Records on limited edition vinyl, and stylistically ventured into shock rock, glam rock and classic doom.
JC Autobody has done limited touring in Chicago, Indianapolis and Muncie, IN.
