Emotions by the Tied Hands ended yesterday. At least the 2024 leg. 2025 appears to have kicked off with Noisesurfer in Castilla la Mancha, Spain.
If you refresh my home page you'll see that Emotions is gone, and that the normal DL;BR background scrim of me screaming into a microphone at the Vogue in 2005 taken by a photographer named Joey Foley has taken its place.
Tour ends, but questions remain. Over the 40 days of its installation on my site, the private messages regarding Emotions trickled in.
What is this? I've seen the poster, but there aren't many clues otherwise.
I've asked myself the same question.
The prompt from Admin@Penklin Burn (aka B. Drummond) was as follows:
"The Tied Hands are not just one pair of tied hands but can be represented by any pair of tied hands, of any age, sex, creed or ethnicity, as long as they are yours."
There was more, but the best I can say is:
If art is an abstraction of reality, Emotions stretched the levels of its abstraction to extreme ends.
In concept, the piece was Bill's. But the Tied Hands were apparently all of us. Like a painter painting a painting of painters, our collective interpretations became the piece itself: The way we saw Emotions, the way we heard Emotions, the self-serving rules we built to frame it, and the stories we'd tell as we each hosted it on our sites.
In short, The Tied Hands are/were a situation. A medium manifesting itself as a set-of-circumstances, with Emotions as the prompt. Less a work of art than the art of work.
But I never went to art school, so what do I know?
The more I write about it, the more I feel like the guy who must explain how the movie ended.
In return (I'm guessing) for my efforts, Drummond mailed me a copy of a limited run self-pressed novella called Biog 2024 (which he crossed out and replaced with WINNING IS FOR LOSERS in Sharpie marker). It's a collection of pseudo-fictional biographies, and another work built around an ephemeral group prompt, none of which were me.
But it was still a privilege to participate. And after all this, there was a site update yesterday.
This is the thing I wanted to say.
Something of a little spitshine. Emotions came down, a few new music updates were posted, a few incorrect things were corrected, and I nixed the "Art" section because it wasn't quite ready.
So have a look around, grab a beer from the fridge, and feel free to bookmark everywhere else DL;BR appears:
