I accidentally AI'd the other day

Go on, git.
Go on, git.

There's a certain personality type that loves a good show of force. And it's been an odd and unsettling series of shows of force this last week.

Once, I drove a van for Old Navy in a neighborhood parade in a town just north of here. We were standing in line waiting for the line to move, and I put it in reverse to give another car some room.

All of a sudden, a guy was at my window. Handsomely coiffed, golf shirt, straight teeth, the whole thing. Screaming at me in front of a crowd.

"There are KIDS here and you almost hit some!"

He wasn't wrong - there were kids among us. That I almost hit them was certainly debatable. Or rather, it was demonstrably false. I apologized and let it go.

"He's running for mayor," someone said from the passenger seat. Suddenly, I got it. This was a performance. A show of force. An early iteration of the Hegseth Doctrine.

Anyway, hope he's doing well. Been thinking about it a lot this weekend.

So I accidentally AI’d the other day.

On social media, every other post is an is-it-cake moment until grandma's face melts off and her rib cage opens up to reveal an avalanche of kittens. It seems like every website and app now has a chirpy little balloon next to all the inputs.

Would you like help writing this post? Want a better subject line? Ask Chris why he's laughing.

I accidentally hit one of those things and made an AI comment on someone's post.

Ew. Deleted, forthwith.

Let me tell you where I’m at with AI. I guess you could say it's a splitting hairs kind of thing (or maybe it's not). Like, can vegans eat honey or how many babies can fit in a tire.

Your mileage may vary.

Do I use it to jumpstart vacation planning? Sure. Do I use it to optimize my signal chain? Of course. Do I use it to avoid sifting through 19 pages of electrician reviews? Why wouldn't I?

But I will never Suno myself a song. I will never Midjourney myself an album cover.

Those things are like letting a Boston Dynamics robot babysit the kids.

I'm not gonna do it. No fuckin way.

The first brushstroke is the sacred light, the breath of the Divine. Creating is the most personal, human thing you can possibly ever do besides hump.

And there's no way in hell I'm letting Sam Altman in my bed.
